When David Garcia (30) moved from Spain to Germany in August 2010, it was supposed to be an Erasmus stay – just one semester abroad. He was going to learn how to be a puppet player at the renowned Berlin acting school "Ernst Busch". But David never left, he never went back to studying at the Royal Spanish Academy in Madrid. Had it not been for the crisis – he might have gone back to Spain and would not be learning German right now. Berlin, the German dream, that means living an affordable life and amazing people, who don't go the "normal way". At the moment David is working on illustrating a children's book and is going to join a theatre company. This might sound like precarious romanticism but David isn't complaining. For him it is a meaningful thing to create something new together with his audience. "German media say, if the Spanish were working hard, they would have enough money. But it's the other way round: They don't have work because the money is gone."
